Sunflower Seed Husk as Promising By-Product for Soil Biodisinfestation Treatments and Fertility Improvement in Protected Lettuce Crop

چکیده

One of the major challenges in biodisinfestation treatments against soilborne pathogens is selection proper organic amendments and mixture features. The use agro-industrial by-products a sustainable alternative with proven efficacy, but availability has to be considered terms location quantity. Sunflower seed one five oil crops widely cultivated husk constitutes significant part that discarded. This by-product brings together features an interesting amendment agricultural soils because its lignocellulose content, no references have been found this field. In study, sunflower was used fresh cow manure treatments, alone or combined other (rapeseed cake, beer bagasse wheat bran). assay performed summer commercial greenhouse yield losses lettuce caused by root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita . Four different mixtures were applied which included 3kg/m 2 manure, as common waste, 1 kg/m (dry weight), considering 6mgC/g soil all C/N ratio (23, 29, 31, 34) by-products. Data collected three moments: (i) before (ii) after (iii) harvesting first crop biodisinfestations. Crop damage assessed through root galling index number eggs roots. effects on pathogen population whole community along some physicochemical microbiological variables (respiration rate, microbial C, water-soluble C physiological profile heterotrophic bacteria Biolog Ecoplates™). All reported effectiveness disease control without differences among them, times. However, temperatures during biodisinfestations higher at ratios fertility also increased these cases, mainly treatment only by-product. proved source improve both humid temperate climate zones.

Seed fates in crop–wild hybrid sunflower: crop allele and maternal effects

Domestication has resulted in selection upon seed traits found in wild populations, yet crop-wild hybrids retain some aspects of both parental phenotypes. Seed fates of germination, dormancy, and mortality can influence the success of crop allele introgression in crop-wild hybrid zones, especially if crop alleles or crop-imparted seed coverings result in out-of-season germination. We performed ...

Detachment of Soil as Affected by Fertility Management and Crop Rotations

An experiment was initiated on Sharpsburg silty clay loam (fine, montmorillonitic, mesic Typic Argiudoll) in 1981 to compare the effects of fertility management and crop practices on splash detachment of soil. Experimental treatments included comparisons of crop rotations of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.| after corn (Zea mays L.) (SB), corn after soybean (C), and oat/red and yellow sweetclove...

Sunflower seed husk agar: a new medium for the differentiation of Candida dubliniensis from Candida albicans.

A sunflower (Helianthus annuus) seed husk agar medium has been developed and evaluated for differentiation of Candida dubliniensis from Candida albicans on the basis of colony morphology and chlamydospore production. All C. dubliniensis isolates (n=40) produced rough colonies with hyphal fringes and abundant chlamydospores whereas 101 of 105 (96.2%) C. albicans isolates produced smooth colonies...

Simultaneous Selection for Seed Yield and Agronomic Traits in Sunflower

Selection of high yielding genotypes is very important in sunflower. Thus, 24 new sunflower hybrids along with Golsa cultivar were evaluated in a simple lattice design (5×5) with two replications in the Agriculture Research Station of Gorgan, north of Iran, during 2020. The genotype by yield × trait (GYT) biplot method was used in order to study the relationships between different traits and to...

Allergy to sunflower seed and sunflower butter as proposed vehicle for sensitization

BACKGROUND It is hypothesized that household exposure to allergenic proteins via an impaired skin barrier, such as atopic dermatitis, may contribute to the development of IgE sensitization. Household presence of peanut is a risk factor for the development of peanut allergy in children. Sunflower seed butter is a peanut-free alternative to peanut butter, and sunflower seed allergy is an uncommon...
